Proud of your work? We want to see it! Send a photo to lscart3@gmail.com

Week 1 - April 6th to April 10th

Dorothea Lange and Photography

Hello 4th Grade! Welcome to your first online assignment! This week you will be learning about famous photographer Dorothea Lange. Something we may do everyday can be considered art, taking a photograph! Pictures may be a way to remember an experience or people we meet, but it can also be art. Dorothea Lange took pictures of everyday people to capture moments. Click the video icon to the left of "Week 1" to watch a video about Dorothea Lange.

Now, I would like you to take a picture like Dorothea Lange. Think about the colors in the picture, the shapes you can find, and your frame of photo just like Lange did. Take a photo of a family member or pet. Fill out the Art Completion form below, due April 10th.

Week 2 - April 13th to April 17th

Pop Art Objects

Start by clicking the video icon to the left to watch a video about Pop Art. Andy Warhol created Pop Art. He created screenprints of people and objects. One of his well known works is Campbell's Soup Cans. He would use the one object and repeat it over and over again to create a pattern. Today you will do the same. Pick one object to draw. You need to take a piece of paper and create four equal sections. Draw your object once in all four sections. Your finished work should have four objects draw on it. You need to draw it exactly the same to make it look like one of Warhol's prints. This can be done with any supplies you have. Fill out the Art Completion form below, due April 17th.

Week 3 - April 20th to April 24th

The Hidden Meaning

Most works of art have a subject or a story the artist wants to tell. Sometimes the message is not clear to us and is hidden. To find the message we may have to observe the objects in the work to make predictions. Today you will use your observation skills to make a guess, or prediction, about the hidden messages in a work of art. Click on the quiz icon to the left of "Week 3" to complete a questionnaire. Further instructions will be in the questionnaire. Fill out the Art Completion form below as well, due April 24th.

Week 4 - April 27th to May 1st

Kandinsky Music Drawing

Many artists take inspiration from the world around them. Some artists enjoy listening to music to create art. Sometimes we listen to music in class!

Wassily Kandinsky was a famous artist who enjoyed making art inspired by music. He said he could see the colors in the music, and loved to paint based on the way the music made him feel.

Today you are going to draw just like Kandinsky liked to, by listening to music. Click the music icon to the left to hear the song. Please listen to the music file on repeat until you have completed the drawing. You may use any drawing supplies you have available. Draw what the music makes you feel. Does the music sound happy? Does it sound sad? Maybe you think it sounds scary? What does the song make you think of? Draw it! Fill out the Art Completion form below, due May 1st.

Week 5 - May 4th to May 8th

Op Art Landscapes

Optical Illusion art (Op art for short) is a style of art that uses optical illusions to give the viewer an impression of movement. It tricks the eye and makes 2D drawings seem like they are 3D. They are interesting to look at and is full of surprises. To create an Op art drawing, you need to use a lot of lines and patterns to create a stimulating movement. Watch the provided video and see if you can make an Op art style landscape. This project requires paper, a pencil/pen and, of course, patience. You might have to watch the video a couple times, but remember all you have to do is your best and have fun with it! When you are done fill out the completion form.

Week 6 - May 11th to May 15th
