Week 1 - April 6th to April 10th

Map Making

Hello 3rd Grade! Welcome to your first online assignment! Today you will be creating a map with two of your favorite places.

You may be wondering how maps are art, but sometimes art can be objects we use everyday such as vases, baskets, and jewelry. Maps can also be a work of art!

I would like you to think about two places you really enjoy going to! Maybe it's Home and the Playground. Maybe you have a favorite restaurant? Think about two places you love. How close are they? Are they far away? Is it a playground right around the corner from home, or are you drawing a place in another state? Ask someone for help if you are unsure where they are located. You could even look at a printed map or google maps if you need help. Draw a map with these two places and the land in between. Include roads, rivers, or landmarks. Use any coloring supplies you have available. Fill out the Art Completion form below, due April 10th.

Week 2 - April 13th to April 17th

Continuous Contour Line Drawing

Hello Students! Today you will be completing a Continuous Contour Line Drawing. Continuous contour is when you draw a picture without picking up your pencil or pen. It stays on the paper for the whole drawing until completion. Click the video icon to the left of "Week 2" to watch a video on continuous contour line drawing.

Please use a pencil or pen and a piece of paper to create your own continuous contour line drawing. You may draw a family member, a pet, or yourself. Fill out the Art Completion form below, due April 17th.

Week 3 - April 20th to April 24th

Be an Art Historian

Sometimes in class we learn about art history and famous artists. Did you know it is some people's job to study art history? These people are called Art Historians. Art Historians study art to discover the artist, the materials used, and make predictions about the work. Today you will be an Art Historian! Click on the quiz icon to the left of "Week 3" to view a work of art. Answer the questions to make predictions about the work and submit the form. Fill out the Art Completion form below, due April 24th.

Week 4 - April 27th to May 1st

Kandinsky Music Drawing

Many artists take inspiration from the world around them. Some artists enjoy listening to music to create art. Sometimes we listen to music in class!

Wassily Kandinsky was a famous artist who enjoyed making art inspired by music. He said he could see the colors in the music, and loved to paint based on the way the music made him feel.

Today you are going to draw just like Kandinsky liked to, by listening to music. Click the music icon to the left to hear the song. Please listen to the music file on repeat until you have completed the drawing. You may use any drawing supplies you have available. Draw what the music makes you feel. Does the music sound happy? Does it sound sad? Maybe you think it sounds scary? What does the song make you think of? Draw it! Fill out the Art Completion form below, due May 1st.

Week 5 - May 4th to May 8th

Archimboldo Portraits

Giuseppe Archimboldo was a painter from Italy. He is known for creating imaginative portraits made entirely of different objects, such as flowers, fruit or vegetables. His paintings are fun to look at because you ever know what objects you are going to find! Watch the video provided to learn more about Giuseppe Archimboldo. Then, choose a family member and draw a portrait of them using unique objects just like Archimboldo did. Think about what objects you could use, fruits, vegetables, flowers, basketball, football, other sports supplies, art supplies, objects in nature, and anything else you can think of.
